In this monthly series, we will be doing a weekly feature of incredible climate tech startups, companies, or projects that are leading the fight against the climate crisis.
These startups work in a number of fast-growing industry categories which include but are not limited to; EDUTECH, FINTECH, GREENTECH (including Energy and Transportation), FOOD & AG TECH, and CONSTRUTECH.
This list will give you an opportunity to better understand the problem(s) they solve, the impact they are looking to have in the climate fight, and how you can further their work.
This initiative from Startup Basecamp aims to support founders by giving them access to networking and exposure opportunities that help them to scale and finance their climate tech solutions.
Do not hesitate to join our collective movement by requesting your membership.

Founded: USA, New York, NY
Co-Founders:
Krystal Persaud, Parinda Darden
Elevator Pitch:
At Wildgrid, we hold your hand through the process of going solar. Renewable energy shouldn’t be so complicated!
Problem They Solve:
92% of Americans want more solar power, but only 4% of the country is powered by solar. Why? Many consumers don’t even know they can go solar (looking at you, renters), and years of spammy sales tactics have eroded trust in the industry.
Impact:
Wildgrid connects consumers and clean energy companies in a solar marketplace. We provide a guided experience to find your best solar solution (commercial, residential, community, and ESCO subscriptions) and make a vendor-neutral recommendation through our online portal. We are community-driven, not sales-centric, and we’re on a mission to make solar accessible to all.

Energy Services & Data Startups:
2. Wegaw
Founded: 2016, Lausanne, Switzerland
CEO:
Ion Padilla
Elevator Pitch:
Wegaw combines remote sensing satellite data with machine learning to monitor and more accurately forecast key environmental variables responsible for energy production.
Problem They Solve:
Today energy distribution and security are at risk all over the world. This is heavily influenced by the instability renewable energy production generates. Forecasting future renewable energy production is extremely difficult compared to classic fossil fuel-based solutions, this causes energy future contracts to be in historic high, day energy prices to be significantly volatile, and create energy security issues that threaten the clean energy transition.
Wegaw’s solution supports the energy sectors’ transition to clean energy by delivering bespoke environmental intelligence gathered from a combination of satellite and multi-sensor data, and combined with cutting-edge machine learning algorithms.
Impact:
In a nutshell, if all hydropower plants in Europe implemented Wegaw data analytics, it would help to generate an additional 26.45 TWh of hydropower energy. Estimating that 20% of the additional energy produced would reduce the need for fossil fuel-based energy in Europe, this would contribute to a reduction of 1060M-1800M tons of CO2 emissions per year.
Thanks to the unique usage of satellite data, Wegaw is able to provide environmental insights like snow accumulation, humidity, water content or wave height, in the most inaccessible regions in the world. This valuable information is integrated into clean energy systems to improve energy forecasts and impact reports, especially created for clean energy ecosystems.

GHG Capture:
3. Carbon Reform
Co-Founders:
Jo Norris, Nick Martin
Elevator Pitch:
Carbon Reform is designing a carbon capture device that helps building owners reduce CO2 levels internally.
Problem They Solve:
According to Carbon Reform, air heating and cooling in U.S. commercial buildings cost around $36 billion annually. This technology is not only expensive but takes a large toll on the environment, amplifying the need for CO2 capture projects which can also bear large costs. In order to make a safe transition to low carbon technologies, we must find ways to better heat and cool buildings and reduce our CO2 levels.
Impact:
Carbon Reform has developed The Carbon Capsule, a device that retrofits into a commercial ventilation system and allows building owners to recover and recycle CO2 from buildings.
The system has proprietary CO2-scrubbing technology and additional filtration for VOCs, pathogens. It also has benefits such as up to 40% energy savings per air handler and can generate carbon credits generated onsite.

Transport & Logistics Startups:
4. Liefergrün
Founded: 2021, Germany, Münster & Berlin
Founders:
Niklas Tauch, Robin Wingenbach, Max Schleper
Elevator Pitch:
Liefergrün is the leading delivery service provider for sustainable delivery. Liefergrün’s aim is to enable guilt-free online shopping by reducing the environmental impact of deliveries.
Problem They Solve:
Ecommerce has exploded over the past two years. More than 75% of Germans regularly buy products online. However, this convenience comes at a price – it’s creating a huge amount of emissions that people are rightly getting very concerned about. For context, there were 4.05 billion online deliveries in Germany alone in 2021, producing 2.43 million tonnes of CO2 or 600 grams per delivery.
Impact:
Liefergrün is about creating a global green solution to delivery which doesn’t compromise on the quality of service to customers. Liefergrün, which is currently present in 30 cities across Germany, uses a fleet of cargo bikes and electric vehicles based at scores of micro distribution hubs to enable emission-free delivery of goods bought online to consumers. Liefergrün is also committed to providing excellent working conditions to its staff and suppliers by paying a living wage and having strict sustainability policy.

Chemical Process Startups:
5. Seppure
Location: 2018, Singapore
Founders:
Dr. Mohammad H.D.A. Farahani
Elevator Pitch:
SEPPURE has developed sustainable nanofiltration solutions that separate chemical mixtures at a molecular level with minimal water and energy use.
Problem They Solve:
Industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals all make use of chemical separation, an energy-intensive process that has been estimated to account for up to 15% of the planet’s entire energy consumption.
In order to successfully mitigate the impact of these important industries, we must find a solution that uses less water and releases fewer emissions.
Impact:
Seppure’s filtration process uses chemically-resistant membranes with pores less than 1 nanometer in diameter, enabling chemical separations at a molecular level and ensuring heat is removed from the entire distillation to evaporation process. This eliminates the large-scale energy use of the process and ensures that quality is not compromised. At the moment, Seppure’s technology can be applied to high-emitting industries such as Vegetable oil production, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, and oil refinery.
