In this monthly series, we will be doing a weekly feature of incredible ClimateTech Startups, companies, or projects that are leading the fight against the Climate Crisis.
These startups work in a number of fast-growing industry categories which include but are not limited to; EDUTECH, FINTECH, GREENTECH (including Energy and Transportation), FOOD & AG TECH, and CONSTRUTECH.
This list will give you an opportunity to better understand the problem(s) they solve, the impact they are looking to have in the climate fight, and how you can potentially help them.
This initiative from Startup Basecamp aims to support founders by giving them access to networking and exposure opportunities that help them to scale and finance their Climate Tech solutions together with you.
Do not hesitate to join our collective movement by requesting your membership.

Week 4:
Food, Ag Tech & Land Use Services:
1. ecording
Founded: 2016, Beşiktaş, İstanbul
Founding Director:
Mert Karslioglu
Elevator Pitch:
Ecording are an environmental technologies company developing solutions to help address the climate crisis.
Problem They Solve:
As the effects of climate change increase, the role forests play in carbon sequestration and promoting biodiversity is more important than ever. Developing technologies that promote and protect these areas is an important climate action required by individuals and organizations.
Impact:
Ecording has developed 2 products to address climate issues. The first, ecoDrone, delivers airborne seed ball shoots in hard-to-reach areas that need to be afforested. Their second product (which comes to market in 2022) is the ecording app, a mobile app that rewards users with discounts and gifts from their partnered companies when they complete the environmental-friendly tasks and photograph them.

Carbon & Green Materials:
2.Cemvita Factory Inc.
Founders:
Moji Karimi, Dr Tara Karimi,
Elevator Pitch:
Cemvita are using Synthetic biology to decarbonize heavy industries and combat climate change.
Problem They Solve:
In order to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change, industries and organizations need to decarbonize efficiently, economically, and quickly. Cemvita aims to use microbes, who have been absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere for ages, to do so.
Impact:
Cemvita partner with organizations and heavy industries to identify how synthetic biology can can be used to revolutionize their business. This is be done by using CO2 or methane as a feedstock (CCUS) or by replacing energy intensive or chemically invasive processes.
Stage:
Series A

GHG Reduction:
3. Symbrosia
CEO:
Alexia Akbay
Elevator Pitch:
Symbrosia is developing a seaweed supplement that is sprinkled into animal feed to reduce methane emissions by over 90%.
Problem They Solve:
Methane has 80x the warming effect on the planet of CO2. A large portion of methane emissions come from livestock that are farmed in large amounts to feed the growing population.
Impact:
Symbrosia are using the power of seaweed to combat these livestock methane emissions. Their seaweed is farmed so that they don’t deplete natural seaweed ecosystems, and is produced using renewable energy, no fresh water, and treats fish farm waste in its production. The seaweed is then added to cows feed and reduces the natural occurring methane without impacting the cows natural fatty acids.

Green Materials Startups:
4. Novoloop
Founded: 2015, Menlo Park, CA
Founders:
Jeanny Yao, Miranda Wang
Elevator Pitch:
Novoloop upcycle plastic packaging waste into materials such as shoes, cars, homes, and more
Problem They Solve:
According to NovoLoop, The chemicals and plastics sector is the second-largest source of industrial greenhouse gas emissions. Their aim is to use waste in a way that keeps it out of landfills and reduces GHG emissions from manufacturing.
Impact:
Novoloop’s products are developed using their unique low carbon production -Accelerated Thermal Oxidative Decomposition (ATOD™). This technology uses plastic waste as a feedstock and stores them as performance materials with virgin qualities. This process produces products such as Oistre™, a high-performance plastic that has a 46% lower CO₂e¹ footprint, and can be used in footwear, fashion, electronics, automotive, and additive manufacturing.
Amount Raised: US $1.2M

AgTech & Land Use:
5. CarbonCrop
Location: 2020, Nelson, New Zealand
CEO: Nick Butcher
Elevator Pitch:
Carbon Crop use AI and remote sensing to enable landowners to protect and restore forest through carbon farming.
Problem They Solve:
Farmers and large land owners can play a vital role in sequestering carbon through their trees and vegetation. In order to do this however, they need insight into their land, vegetation and carbon farming possibilities.
Impact:
Carbon Crops services help farmers and landowners through 3 simple steps. In the first step they identify land areas already eligible for carbon credits, as well as those with high carbon potential. Secondly, they explain the requirements of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and the land management implications for that farm or forest. Lastly they submit Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) application and compile all land maps and carbon calculations, allowing landowners to receive an upfront payment, as well as annual carbon credit returns.
