The Climate Tech Startups to Watch: March 2025 Week 3

March Week 3, 2025:  Welcome to our ongoing blog series, where we spotlight the most promising climate tech startups. Each week, we feature five companies and add them to our running list of innovative companies driving solutions across sectors with the highest potential for greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions.

At Startup Basecamp, we believe that tackling the climate crisis requires a sector-focused approach, addressing emissions at their source. To ensure our efforts align with real-world impact, we have prioritized five sectors identified by Project Drawdown as having the highest potential for GHG emissions reduction.

Each month, we add these startups to our running list, which we have categorized based on fuel emission sector data from Project Drawdown.

Why did we decide to focus on the five specific sectors?

These sectors present immense opportunities for innovation  as well as addressing critical challenges related to GHG emissions. By narrowing our focus to these areas, we can better align our mission with impactful solutions and support founders who are driving meaningful change.

By spotlighting these startups, we aim to support founders by providing them with networking and exposure opportunities that can help them scale and finance their solutions.

Founded: 2021 – Tallinn, EE

Leadership: Rainer Küngas

Elevator Pitch: Stargate Hydrogen is accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen by making electrolysis more efficient and affordable for heavy industries like steel, fertilizers, and chemicals. Founded in 2021, the company combines novel ceramic catalysts and patented stack design to create high-performance, cost-effective electrolysers.

Problem they solve: Traditional hydrogen production is carbon-intensive and expensive, especially in hard-to-decarbonize sectors. Stargate addresses this by improving the efficiency of green hydrogen generation and reducing the cost barriers that slow down industrial transition to clean fuels.

Impact: Renaissance Fusion is developing a zero-emissions energy source that uses no fossil fuels, emits no CO₂, and offers limitless clean energy once operational. Their innovative approach to building HTS-based stellarators dramatically simplifies deployment, bringing fusion energy closer to commercial reality. The long-term impact is a decarbonized global energy system powered by safe, sustainable, and abundant fusion power.

Stage: Series A.

Founded: 2018 – Barcelona, ESP

Founder:  Giuseppe Scionti

Elevator Pitch: Novameat is reinventing the future of food through authentic, plant-based meats that prioritize nutrition, sustainability, and culinary delight. Using proprietary texturizing technology, Novameat delivers protein-packed, soy-free, and gluten-free alternatives that offer the taste, texture, and bite of real meat—without the environmental cost.

Problem they solve: The global food system is under pressure from climate change, unsustainable agriculture, and rising health concerns linked to meat consumption. Many plant-based options fall short in texture, taste, or nutritional value. Novameat bridges this gap by offering clean-label, high-protein alternatives that eliminate common allergens and additives while preserving the gastronomic experience meat lovers seek.

Impact: By replacing conventional meat with sustainable, plant-based alternatives, Novameat reduces greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and water consumption. Their focus on simple, wholesome ingredients and cutting-edge food tech supports a healthier planet and food system, making sustainable eating more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Stage: Series A.

Founded: 2018 –  Ontario, CA

Founder: Francesco Iorio

Elevator Pitch: Augmenta is transforming the construction industry with AI-powered software that automates building design, starting with electrical systems. Their cloud-based platform, the Augmenta Construction Platform (ACP), enables VDC and BIM teams to create fully coordinated, clash-free electrical conduit designs in hours instead of weeks.

Problem they solve: The construction industry faces mounting challenges like labor shortages, tight schedules, and growing complexity in building design. Traditional modeling processes are slow, costly, and prone to human error, leading to delays and rework. Augmenta eliminates these bottlenecks through automation and generative design.

Impact: By reducing design time, rework, and material waste, Augmenta contributes to a lower carbon footprint in construction projects. Their platform promotes efficiency and precision, ultimately decreasing the environmental impact of building design and construction processes.

Stage: Seed.

Founded: 2023 – Hauptsitz, DE

Founders: Jochen Schwill

Elevator Pitch: Spotmyenergy is transforming the way homes and businesses manage electricity by combining smart metering, energy trading, and dynamic pricing into a single, user-friendly platform. Acting as both a metering point operator and electricity trader, Spotmyenergy empowers users to optimize consumption, generation, and trading of energy, unlocking energy independence and cost savings.

Problem they solve: Legacy energy infrastructure is outdated, inflexible, and inefficient—leaving consumers at the mercy of high prices and fossil-fuel dependency. Spotmyenergy replaces this analogue system with smart digital tools that give users real-time visibility, control, and profitability from their energy systems—whether it’s solar panels, EV chargers, heat pumps, or home batteries.

Impact: Exowatt’s technology supports continuous, zero-emissions energy for hard-to-decarbonize sectors. By combining renewable generation, thermal storage, and intelligent system design, the platform reduces reliance on fossil fuels, cuts greenhouse gas emissions, and accelerates the transition to clean, always-available power—enabling a greener industrial future.

Stage:  Seed.

Founded: 2020 – Oakland, CA, USA

Founder: Aanindeeta Banerjee

Elevator Pitch: Resource Chemical is transforming the plastic industry by creating high-performance plastics from CO₂ and inedible biomass. With cutting-edge technology, the company delivers cost-competitive, sustainable alternatives that match or surpass the performance of traditional plastics—without the environmental cost.

Problem they solve: Plastics are critical to modern life but come with a massive carbon and waste footprint, contributing to 8% of global fossil fuel use and producing over 300 million tons of waste annually. Current bioplastics fall short, relying on food crops and underperforming in both cost and functionality. Resource Chemical tackles this challenge by replacing fossil-based plastics with truly sustainable, non-food-based solutions.

Impact: By using captured CO₂ and inedible biomass as feedstocks, Resource Chemical helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and divert waste from landfills and incinerators. The result is a more circular and climate-friendly plastic economy, aligning industrial-scale plastic production with long-term environmental sustainability.

Stage: Series A.
